Goa – End Of Year Report

September 1994

A summary of the activities of HAPC (GOA) during the last year are given below:

1)       Family Aid:
The Family Aid Account is presently the main route through which we help both little children as well as needy young students. In addition to providing a monthly stipend to each family we now have periodic visits to these recipients. This helps us to get a better insight into their problems and whenever possible to suggest solutions which do not always incur extra expenditure to us. However, in the case of one family of 13 children we decided to fund two of the older sons through a year’s course in air-conditioning repairs with the understanding that after the boys have obtained jobs we would consider our commitment to such a family to be over. After a visit to one of our families in the company of a well wisher, better alternative accommodation was offered to the family.

 2)       Bal Niketan:
We continue to periodically visit Bal Niketan, the remand home for orphans, and organise games and parties at Christmas and Easter.

 3)       HAPC Old Goa Stall:
During the novena of St. Francis Xavier at Old Goa last December (1993) we erected and manned an HAPC Stall.  We received generous help from various bodies such as Old Goa Panchayat which allocated two adjacent stall spaces to us rent free, several individuals who gave freely of their time and money, free erection of the stall by a well wisher in exchange for a space to sell his ice cream. The purpose of the stall was primarily to create awareness of HAPC in a large number of people through wall posters and some very popular games with prizes.

 4)       HAPC Centre:
The HAPC Centre is still under our active consideration and we hope to receive clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs to receive funds from HAPC within a few more months. The project plan for the Centre is attached.
