4th September 2007
International Pakistani cricketer, Mushtaq Ahmed, teamed up with HELP A POOR CHILD to host a Dinner Event on Monday 3rd September 2007 at the new TKC Banqueting Centre, Southall. It was the kind of event, which will live in the memory of those who attended, for a long while.
International Pakistan & Sussex spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, teamed up with HAPC to organise a fund-raising event for deserving cases in Pakistan village.
Mushtaq, who has enjoyed fame for his fine spin bowling, has never forgotten those back home in Pakistan and aimed to raise £10,000 to help deserving cases he has identified in the village of Sahiwal. Not only did Mushtaq achieve his target but his many international cricketing colleagues were present at the event, demonstrating the popularity of a well liked and respected cricketer.

The charity has already been discussing with Mushtaq some of the ways in which these funds will be utilized. We have agreed with Mushtaq to look at sponsoring some poor children, providing medical care to the really needy and to providing some educational support to bright children who live on the edge of poverty and are, therefore, unable to progress with their academic careers. Just how far we go with these programs, will depend on how much money is raised. So we appeal to all well wishers to continue to support Mushtaq’s work by making donations. This can be done by contacting members of the charity or by visiting this web link to make secure online donations –www.justgiving.com/mushi.

The evening was also used to acknowledge Mushtaq’s achievements on the cricket field in recent years. In 2003 he became the first player in five years to take 100 or more Championship wickets, which were a key factor in his county Sussex winning their first ever Championship. He and they repeated this feat in 2006. He was also voted Wisden Cricketer of year in 1997.
