I had gone to New Delhi on some personal work, and in that connection I had a talk with the Union Minister for Welfare Mr. Thangabalu, and found out from him that with regards to projects of non-governmental voluntary organisations, involved in welfare activities, the Central Government gives aid for various projects to the extent of 70%. I am putting this before you as to whether we in Madras could avail of such aid from the Central Government. The fate of unfortunate families the world over keeps worsening year by year, as the international economic conditions deteriorate with resultant rise in prices and the lowering of living standards. It is a matter of grave concern that these are the families with the largest number of children and it is the children who suffer the most. As a winner of the 1st Prize in the H.A.P.C. Grand Lottery Draw I have nowords that could describe my extreme shock and joy to have been the lucky one picked out of 100’s of entries at the H.A.P.C. Charity Gala as the No 1 Prize winner – it was a God send!!. I recall the evening that Mr Pereira informed me of this news, there was pandemonium in my house!. We had to find the other half of the ticket and my entire wardrobe was on my bed whilst the children hunted through my pockets and handbags until they found the tickets!!. And then of course none of us slept all through the night, it was all too much to take in!!.
