Following his heroic fund-raising efforts, HAPC Committee Member, Druve Patel, investigated the possibility of starting a project to educate some poor children in Gambia. His discovered that schooling is not free in Gambia; therefore many parents simply cannot afford to send their children to school, causing many children to be uneducated.
During his travels to Gambia, Druve met with a Gambian, Mattar Jallow, who worked with Druve by donating some land with HAPC agreeing to the funding of the school building and maintenance.
HAPC is now delighted and happy to be involved in this project and while the registration process is underway for HAPC to gain charitable status in Gambia and office bearers to obtain clearance to work with children, work has commenced on the building of a modest class room, which we hope will be the begining of a structured school porgram.
Intially 20 to 30 Gambian children will be chosen through a thorough selection process, which is based on the neediest of children.
The location of this project is in a town called Soma. The area is extremely rural, with the nearest school around 10 miles away.
This is what the site looked like originally. The locals themselves cleared the shrub area, to make way for the footings to be dug.
The initial building stage. The first few blocks are made, and the project begins !!!!
Progress Continues – please visit the website or contact us for further progress reports and especially funding of this project.
