On hearing about HELP A POOR CHILD’s work with poor children, school children from Upper IV Aleph, Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls, Hertfordshire, organised a car wash during the cold days of November last. Their efforts (washing the teacher’s cars!) raised £201.23.

Having assumed the Chairmanship of the Branch, I have picked up the challenge of obtaining FERA authorisation to allow us to receive foreign contributions.  The decision of the Home Ministry in Delhi to refuse the Branch general clearance without giving us a reason has severely hampered our ability to operate.  No doubt, you are aware that this state of affairs has continued for a few years now, ever since the Indian Government introduced this onerous foreign exchange regulation.

Madras – End Of Year Report

I had gone to New Delhi on some personal work, and in that connection I had a talk with the Union Minister for Welfare Mr. Thangabalu, and found out from him that with regards to projects of non-governmental voluntary organisations, involved in welfare activities, the Central Government gives aid for various projects to the extent of 70%. I am putting this before you as to whether we in Madras could avail of such aid from the Central Government. The catch however, is that the voluntary organisation must complete 3 years of functioning.
