Press Release – Sir Vince Cable

The charity extends a very warm welcome to Sir Vince Cable who has accepted HAPC’s invitation to be its Patron.

On the occasion of its 35th Anniversary the charity, HELP A POOR CHILD, is delighted to announce that the Rt. Hon. Sir Vince Cable has agreed to become a Patron of the Charity. In so doing he will share the honorary title of patron with the charity’s Founding Patron, Mother Colombiere, whose inspiration it was thirty-five years ago that brought the charity into being. That inspiration continues to be felt to this day. While Mother Colombiere approaches her 90th birthday, HELP A POOR CHILD has named its most recent school project in Gambia, the Colombiere School project, in her honour.

In May 2010, Sir Vince was appointed Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in Prime Minister David Cameron’s coalition Government.  It was a position he held until May 2015.

HELP A POOR CHILD’s vision is to operate in the poorest countries of the world, serving poor and displaced children by providing programmes that bring them hope and restore dignity. These programmes are designed to improve their physical profile and raise standards of education, and in so doing to help those children enter adulthood with qualities that will provide them with enduring benefits and prospects in life that would otherwise have been denied them.

In his welcoming address to HELP A POOR CHILD supporters Sir Vince remarked, “I am happy to be associated with HELP A POOR CHILD’S good work, and I am particularly pleased to see that the charity has now started to reach out and help poor children not just in India but in all other parts of the world where it identifies a need”

HELP A POOR CHILD’s chairman, Derrick Pereira, said that the charity is honoured and privileged to have Sir Vince as its Patron.  His association with HAPC and endorsement of its work will raise the charity’s profile, at an important time as it seeks to raise essential funds for its projects.

In recognition of its 35 years of good work HELP A POOR CHILD is inviting donations from all sectors of the public, to enable it to add to its past and present achievements, and in so doing to widen the scope of its ability to meet the needs of the young by providing much-needed help often where none is otherwise available.
